Mun Kee Steam Fish Head, OUG, Kuala Lumpur

I was craving for a nice steam fish on a lovely Friday night. I can still remember when I ate at Mun Kee Steam Fish and Jalan Imbi with my ex-colleagues and it was good. After some searching, I found out that they have an outlet in Happy Garden. I was happy and we soon, we were there for dinner.

They are famous for their steam fish and few other dishes as well, but I just want to eat their steam fish. They only use Soong fish (Asian Carp)  and I love it that the bones are big and is easy to eat. They have five ways of cooking the fish; neon, clear steam, black bean, sambal sos and smash ginger steam.

We ordered ginger steam fish and one vegetable.

Ginger Steam Fish (RM27)
Yau Mak (RM9)
The total damage is about RM45 including drinks and 2 rice. To me, the price is very reasonable and I wouldn't mind travelling back to the place for the fish. It is packed during dinner time. So, if you don't like the wait, do come before 8pm or after 9pm.

Hanamaru Udon at Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur

This morning we decided to have a brunch first before the movie starts. We were deciding between Ippudo and Hanamaru Udon and seeing we don't have much time, we opted Hanamaru Udon. Yoshinoya and Hanamaru come under Texchem Resources Group

This would be my third visit and his second visit. I was happy when they opened in Malaysia. We came across this similar concept of look and feel to the food itself when we were in Hong Kong last year. They co-share the space with Yoshinoya, hence, do expect seating to be limited during peak hour.

Service is moderate and servers behind counter are fast and sometimes, not so friendly. This is after all, a self-service and sometimes the queue is crazy during peak hours. Pricing is fairly reasonable and the food quality isn't bad. Their main specialty is udon but they have chawanmushi and tempura selections.

They have fairly a few choices of udon for you to choose from; beef, curry, salad, spicy miso, clear miso, chicken broth or basic.

We decided to order Kitsune Udon and Tori Dash Udon. No side dishes this round since we were weren't super hungry. Tori Dashi's broth was nice but nothing to shout about. I love their udon . Very good texture and their clear broth is not super oily and still flavourful.

Kitsune Udon (RM 8.80) Regular

Tori Dashi Udon (RM 10.80) Regular
The prices vary, depending on what you order. Regular is between RM7.80 to RM12.80 and for large bowl, price range will be between RM10.80 to 15.80. It's a suitable choice when you want to have a quick lunch/ dinner or even on a budget.

IDC KL Ice Cream & Dessert at Damansara Kim, Petaling Jaya

We are back again to IDC today for second round and to satisfy my dessert craving. I noticed that their signboard is up too, and this makes it easier for people to notice.

Today, we tried triple chocolate and apple crumble. Chocolate is rich with pieces of chocolate chip and apple crumble is creamy too.

OW:L Espresso at SS15 Subang Jaya

One of the current trending places is cafe serving "pat bingsu". It is a korean dessert which means shaved ice. We've been very much into Korean and Japanese; from food, dessert, anime, k-dramas.

Bingsu hits the Malaysian shore when Caffe Bene opened here and soon, yes, others try to emulate what Bene has done. We have dal.komm Coffee and Bingsu Cafe, which we have tried too and will write about it when we revisit it again. Unfortunately, not everywhere has bingsu.

Yesterday, hubby was craving for it and we were heading to Subang for errands. Thank goodness for google, we found one in SS15 Subang Jaya opposite McDonalds and next to Inti International College.

The cafe is located on the first floor of Menara Rajawali. Our first impression wasn't good from outside of the building. There was an odd smell, more like the food court kind of smell since there is a restaurant downstairs. But, we were pleasantly surprised when we reached their entrance.

The place is big and the look and feel is very modern in style and black ceiling. At a corner, there is a sofa that you can relax on.

As always, we usually order one and share. Yes, we aren't very big eaters, unless either one of us is extremely hungry, then we will order separately. They have many types of bingsu and we decided to try Lemon Yuzu. The shaved ice was smooth in texture, although it wasn't smooth and flaky and still melt in your mouth kind of thing. Flavour wise, it's sweet with hint of cheese. Thankfully, it isn't super sweet as I thought.

All in all, we would certainly come back again if we are ever in Subang and craving for bingsu.

IDC KL Ice Cream & Dessert at Damansara Kim, Petaling Jaya

There is a new ice-cream parlour in town. I love ice-cream and it wasn't until last year that they start to pop up here and there. It was about time although there isn't much alcoholic ice-cream selections other than Inside Scoop. I still have to satisfy my own alcoholic ice-cream cravings by going to Udders whenever I go down.

I am happy to know that there's a new player in town and they go under the brand Kapiti, a New Zealand ice cream. The shop is bright and you can't miss it. It is the same row as Extra Super Tanker Restaurant.

What I love about their ice-cream is that they have more variety; from Creme Fraiche, Fig & Honey, Triple Chocolate, Lemongrass & Ginger to name a few.

We tried Black Doris Plum and Creme Fraiche, Fig & Honey. It was yummy and the texture was smooth and we could taste the flavours.

Warung Babi Guling Pak Malen at Bali, Indonesia

As I continue my Bali experience, yes, it was a free and easy holiday and we practically didn't visit any of the famous temples and etc. We, do need to eat too and we explore only few restaurants as suggested by our hotel reception and driver.

No, we didn't try Naughty Nuri here as it's very commercialized and to me, it's overhyped. Moreover, I prefer to go where locals like to eat and they recommended Pak Malen since it's very near to Seminyak.

Our driver took us there on our second day during lunch time. If you are planning a trip to Bali between May to August, I suggest that you were extremely light and thin clothings because the weather will kill you.

Secondly, there is no air-cond in this restaurant. It's very small and located at a traffic junction with say, 20 tables or less. Going over during lunch hour was bad as it was packed other than us trying to sit as comfortably as possible on a hot day. There were fan but, let's just say, not much air ventilation.

Obviously, we ordered their famous babi guling dish. Portion was small but it was good. They cooked the pork in different types and it comes with soup too. Don't underestimate the dish and soup. It may look tame but trust me, it is super spicy and add the weather, we were sweating after we finished eating.

The crispy pork skin was super crunchy and meat was tender. It was yummy. My advice is to come before the lunch crowd. Their service is fast when it's peak. I think all in, we paid around 75,000 IDR.

One Eleven @ Bali, Indonesia

This will be my first travel post. I decided to take a short weekend getaway to Bali, Indonesia in early June 2015. I'd say, the last time I went to Bali was in 2005, right after the bombing with my mum. That was also my first and last time I decided to travel to another country with a tour group. I would prefer free and easy all the way.

This was one of the ahem, few occasion that I decided to splurge on luxury hotel and spoil myself. After tons of browsing and reading reviews in trip advisor which hotel to stay, I chose One Eleven. I wanted to stay in Seminyak and the location couldn't be more perfect; it's a walking distance to restaurants and shops.

My experience with them from when I started corresponding with them via email up to the end of our stay was amazing. They replied each and every of my email patiently and promptly.

We left for KL on a late night flight and by the time we arrived Bali International Airport, it was close to midnight. We were greeted by two cheerful drivers at the arrival hall and were led to the private van transfer. It was a nice touch of them to offer us cold towels for us to freshen up and mineral water. The ride was smooth with no traffic at all and soon, we arrived at the hotel 20 minutes later.

Our first impression of the hotel was divine and luxurious. The front entrance and open reception design is modern, yet minimalistic.

Surprisingly, we weren't even tired and sleepy at all. We were excited and check-in was quick. The hotel consist of 9 private villa with pool and gazebo. One of the reason why I choose this hotel is that this is an all-adult only hotel. No screaming children or babies at all. It was the peace and quiet that I was looking for.

We sat in a buggy and in 10 seconds, we arrived at Villa 3. We were awed and speechless the moment we open the door. This is even better than the photos. The butler showed us around and in few minutes, we were left on our own to explore the room, the pool and large private garden. We settled down our stuff and took photos. We were even greeted by a friend, a small little froggie other than mosquitos. The sky was so clear that I could see so many stars in the sky. We stayed up till almost 2am.

Our 3 nights stay there was divine and relaxing. We just stayed and explored around Seminyak other than spending time at the villa. I took the special package whereby the price includes; 1x 2 hour spa for 2 and dining for two. It was indeed a luxury of having the spa at the gazebo. Daily breakfast was one of the highlights that we look forward to. The menu changes daily and we pre-ordered our selections the day before and they prep it at our villa every morning.

Day 1-Breakfast

Day 2 Breakfast

As for the spa, we opted to separate the 2 hour spa into 1 hour on 2 separate days. On our last night, we had a fine dining dinner at our villa without having to dress up at all.

If you need a short getaway with no screaming children around and wants to have an intimate time with your partner/spouse and is willing to splurge for special occasion, I would recommend this place. It's a place that I will want to go back again.
